Not having studied the human mind would take us back to the time where patients with mental health issues were regarded as lunatics and were subjected to atrocities. We are blessed that we are a part of the era where we have information about mental health!

And after having understood the mind but lacking therapists, we would still be in a better position than lacking knowledge altogether, because then, we can at least identify the symptoms with some disorder and not stigmatize the sufferer. We would know what it is, but won't be able to do anything about it. It would still be a scary world. But the reality is very relieving and hopeful here as well. We have therapists and treatments :) Yay!

In reality, there are countries that do not have mental health facilities yet. But thanks to these technological advancements; People from any corner of this world can avail of psychological facilities through video/audio sessions via the internet. Many organizations provide online services overseas including Mindsolace. One just has to search. Treatment is now available to everybody. People don't need to suffer anymore!

However, in remote locations, the situation would be similar to the ancient world, with all the false beliefs and exposure of patients to painful methods, trial and error methods of treatment, asylums, etc.

The best way out would be to seek online psychological services. The next best option would be to-

>Try to identify the symptoms and read about them and the associated disorders to have a better understanding of the possible condition of the person

>Make the person aware of the symptoms and the associated disorders. This will help him understand what is happening with him and help him stop blaming himself, and start forgiving and loving himself. Healing begins here.

>Be calm and empathetic with the patient. They are suffering already.

>Try to understand the perspective of the patient.

>Try to help the patient with his/her difficulties in everyday tasks.

>Family shall be compassionate.

Any self-harm thoughts shall be treated as emergency and treatment shall be sought immediately.
