"Welcome to the safe space of compassionate inquiry called psychotherapy"
Today in this era of woke society, everybody is inundated with knowledge as well as awareness about the relevance of acknowledging mental health issues. Moreover, one is also well versed in the fact that there exists a wide range of psychological help including psychotherapy and its various modalities but still, there exists some confusion, what it’s about the whole process and the idea of psychotherapy. So let’s start with making our-self understand the meaning and significance that psychotherapy can uphold in our lives in a much more refreshing way.
Psychotherapy according to me, “Is an open invitation to a space where we have the opportunity to make sense of who we are, to explore where we want to go, to transcend that part of self that no longer serves or fulfill us in a satisfying way and in this journey we are not alone there is a trained person who has the ability to hold our presence as well as helps us uphold and make sense of that broken, fragile psychological and emotional self in a very compassionate way. ”
Psychotherapy can be enriched in various ways;
1. our therapist hearing us means that through him/her we are hearing our-self that is we are hearing a part of ourselves that we thought was just a distant echo, therefore, assumed as nonrelevant
2. wider appreciation of self and other people around us, helps us to be more alive, present, and involved with people.
3. Helps you to rewrite your own story or narrative in a way that is more cohesive, meaningful, and thus becomes significant
4. Therapist is committed to holding that space and presence which
is non-judgmental as well as doesn’t allow the client to judge themselves while in and even after the therapeutic process
5. Therapy allows the client to acknowledge their own strength, wisdom, and insight which often gets blocked by certain unwanted experiences
6. Gives us strength to see how things actually are and not how we would like them to be or rather expected to be
7. Helps us to experience informed as well as facilitated mourning which encourages us to own our vulnerability in a non -judgmental compassionate manner.
8. Therapy as a form of the therapeutic relationship, alliance, or for that matter as a dialogue allows to have informed emotional communication which has attributes along with the quality of
layers of listening, empathy and resonance. Hence gives u a sense of emotional security and belonging by validating your emotional response.
9. Therapy could be called a process of goodwill hunting as the
therapist being emotionally involved and at the same time being distant has no hidden or personal agenda in the outcome or the goal of therapy which could be understood as detached engagement.
10. It helps in building our capacity to take personal responsibility even in those times which are extremely challenging.
Hence, In the end, one could say that making a decision to go to therapy is like enrolling in a school where we recover, rediscover, understand as well work with our-self and our emotions in a fulfilling way. Meanwhile, it can also count as an opportunity or a gift that helps us experience
authentic self-care and compassion.
