As a therapy not only involves dealing with our own troubles, but also discovering amazing things about us, therapy can be fun sometimes, kust like a smooth ride in an amusement park. But sometimes, therapy can be like a big meal as we try to get deeper into our insecurities and experiences.  Thus, its important to give ourselves sometime to digest the things happened during an intense therapy session and be prepared for the next session.

  • Take sometime to think how you feel afater the therapy session annd write down everything you feel in a notebook.

Thinking what happened during the therapy session and the affirming things therapist said during the session can help to get a clarity if we take sometime and think calmly about the events happened during the therapy. Writing our thoughts on a book or journaling can nake us feel more lighter by taking the burden off from our mind.

  • Taking deep breaths.

Taking a deep breath can help relieve anxiety and stress during various situations. Thus, just a deep inhale and exhale of air few times can remove the tension within us.

  • Small stretches or gentle massages.

Giving small stretches or gentle maasages to our body can ease the physical tension. Doing light exercise or yoga, dancing or singing that we enjoy the most can also remove the tension.

  • A nature walk.

A walk in natuire or our favourite place can have a calming effect on our mind. Listening to various sounds in the nature, such as a bird chirping, rustling of leaves around us and enjoying thses sounds can relieve our stress.

  • Have a sip of your favourite drink.

If possible, go to a nearby cofeeshop or else sit on the favourite corner of your own home. Having a sip of our favourite drink along with our thoughts can be beneficial .

  • Listening to our favourite music.

Music is proven to be a great healer during the times of stress and suffering. Music therapy is applied in many settings which just works as a therapy. Thus, listening to our favourite music can help to calm down our intense feelings.

  • Doing something that makes us feel comfortable.

Doing something that makes us feel comfortable such as engaging on our favourite hobbies ( reading, drawing, listening to a positive podcast) along with our thoughts can be helpful.

  • TRY TO AVOID
  • Looking our phone continuously.
  • Ignoring our feelings.
  • Keeping ourself busy.
  • Going to work.
  • Binge watching TV.

Although these techniques seems helpful for many of us, it can be damaging to ourselves. Even though we try to ignore our feelings or keep ourselves busy through various activities, after sometime those feelings can reappear again and make us feel uncomfortable. Thus try to avoid doing these things after the session.

Self care benefits all. But different approaches works for everyone as we all are different in our own ways. Thus, it's completely okay if you do any of these approaches that makes you comfortable and get you mentally prepared for the next session :).
