Do you also often wonder, What makes us get up every morning and live a fulfilling day? What makes us feel active and uplifted even during difficult stages in life? The answer to all the above questions is Motivation.

What is motivation?

Motivation is the fuel that moves us from within to get up and pursue our goals. It drives us to do tasks out of our comfort zone, fills us with zeal to keep going irrespective of the challenges in the process, and helps you grow as a people.

How to stay consistent during testing times?

Sometimes situations do not work according to our expectations, and we start to feel upset. We can remind ourselves of the strengths, and capabilities to keep the faith alive. Start with small steps toward a long-term goal. Focus on efforts and not perfection to stay consistent. Every day, each moment contributes to progress.

Motivation, Passion, and Grit for our goals help us work outside our comfort zone. We try to step outside the safety net and walk into new territories and opportunities in life. It is not necessary to see the complete trajectory of steps at the moment. As we keep working, the further steps start to become visible. The key is to embrace uncertainty.

We may make mistakes when initially working on new projects. Instead of immediately labeling ourselves, we can see them as learning opportunities. Reflecting on these questions may help build an optimistic attitude.

Which new approaches can we adapt?

What things do we wish to avoid?

Which skill can we learn to upgrade ourselves?

Factors that help us nurture motivation in life

1. Goals

Purposeful plans work as fuel and act as a catalyst to make life more meaningful. Developing self-awareness helps in defining these goals. We also gain clarity about what makes us happy. Achievable goals also provide the excitement to keep learning and achieving new milestones in life. We desire to turn the dream into reality.

When we have a purposeful life, we may wish to add meaning to others around us. Our vision and dream may also widen its horizon. It is one of the kinds of motivation to keep doing good work in life.

2. Emotions

Dreams always bring feelings of happiness, contentment, enjoyment, and empowerment. The joy of achieving our goal is a special feeling that ensures we keep working even through phases of low moods, hurt, and dissatisfaction.

Managing these emotions is a learned and valuable skill. It helps us to sail through the ups and downs while working towards our goals. An objective understanding of unfavorable situations saves us from taking things personally. Hence our emotions are an integral part of staying motivated with zeal.

3. Self-Efficacy

It is a belief in our actions, caliber, and hard work that gives us the confidence to impact the outcome of unfavorable situations. It also helps us in building resilience

Our confidence may reduce by quickly judging our self-worth based on situations. Here self-efficacy helps us move past disappointments, mistakes, and detours in the journey.

4. Support System

Having caring Parents, siblings, friends, spouses, colleagues, neighbors, partners, or connecting with the right people is a shielding factor. Their encouragement gives a sense of hope and togetherness to keep accomplishing our best possible selves.

Conclusion

Staying motivated in life is a choice and a personal responsibility. Others may not always do it for us. Living a purposeful life should not become a challenging job. We can make it possible if we keep finding things we enjoy, like, and feel passionate about at various stages of life. If you are facing difficulty staying motivated, know when is the right to consult a psychologist. A mental health professional can help you identify what is causing a lack of motivation.
